CLT Workshop –  “Hot Topics” in the classroom

February 21 or 22 at 10:00, Gornto Hall, room 422.

“Tell me he didn’t just say what I think he said.”

“How does her last social media status relate to this discussion?”

“I wish I could hit the delete button on the last ten minutes of this class discussion. I’m exhausted!”

Do you ever purposely avoid controversial subjects in the classroom due to apprehension or anticipation of heated discussions, debates or dialogues? Although they can be difficult to manage, even for the most experienced instructor, these opportunities can serve as hidden gems that are useful and powerful tools to stimulate critical thinking and civic engagement in your classrooms. Stephanie Sanders, Director of Diversity Initiatives for Institutional Equity & Diversity, will lead our workshop on “Hot Topics” in the classroom. This session offers practical and actionable strategies and specific guidance on how to successfully manage controversial topics in the classroom.
