I chose to take Spanish because I come already from a hispanic background being Mexican and Cuban. Both sides of my family struggled with English and so teaching my siblings and I was never a priority because they wanted to make sure we didn’t struggle like they did. As I’ve gotten older it’s persuaded me to fully understand the language and become fluent. It’s important not only for me to understand my own culture but important overall for those to understand others backgrounds.

My experience with Spanish has been a rollercoaster throughout my life. Growing up I heard it all the time between family members but never fully became fluent. I understand a majority of the language and when people speak me however, I struggle with being able to speak it myself. After this course I’ve been able to speak Spanish more comfortably and hold conversations longer. In my future I hope to become fluent and be able to have full conversations with family and friends. Eventually, I would like to travel to Mexico to visit my family’s old town and be able to use my Spanish there.
