Course experience 3

Cybersecurity Ethics (PHIL 355E)

Cybersecurity Ethics is a course, that focuses on ethical issues related to computers and IT. Through the course, I explore topics such as privacy, cybercrime, freedom of speech, and the impact of technology. The structure of the course was focused around case studies and discussions that required me to view real world ethical situations and apply different theories ethically to make informed decisions.

An experience that really stuck out to me was completing case analysis, where I had to evaluate scenarios in cybersecurity to determine the most ethical course of action. The assignments needed me to consider the Multiple perspectives. to justify my decisions using ethical reasoning. Doing this helped me better understand how ethical principles can be applied to real situations and how professionals have to make decisions that impact not only individuals but organizations.

The result of the work I did helped me develop strong critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills as well. It helped me learn how to clearly explain my reasoning and evaluate complex issues and to support the argument I had with evidence. These skills are important to cybersecurity because Professionals often face situations where technical decisions also have ethical consequences. The importance of responsibility and accountability in the field was very well shown and emphasized in this course.

This experience from this course connects to my long term goals by reinforcing the importance of important decision making in this field. As I build my career and continue, I will need to consider not only how technical problems are to be solved, but how my actions can also impact others. The ability to analyze situations ethically and communicate my decisions clearly will be essential for professional settings.

This artifact is my case analysis was a fun assignment to do as i examined the ethical aspect of Google Street View and its affect on user privacy. In this paper, I used ethical frameworks such as consequentialism, information ethics and theory of privacy to evaluate the large scale data collection can affect individuals and society. This artifact demonstrates my capability to analyze real world technology issues, apply ethical reasoning, and clearly communicate my finding, which are important to the field I will be apart of.
