One experience that has stood out to me is my role as a lead sales associate at the Marine Corps exchange known as the MCX. While I’ve been working towards my degree in cybersecurity at ODU this role has helped me with it. Customers keep the store organized and supporting daily operations. A big part of my job is stepping in when supervisors aren’t around, making sure everything runs smoothly and that both customers and coworkers are taken care of, and the experience from this represents the kind of responsibility and consistency I’ve built Over time.
Through this experience, I’ve developed a lot of important skills like communication, teamwork and adaptability, and working in a fast-paced environment has taught me how to stay calm in stressful situations and handle different types of situations and work efficiently with others. I’ve also learned the importance of being reliable and staying consistent with my work, and taking on more responsibility in a leadership role has helped me become more confident in my decision making and how I interact with others.
This experience connects to my long term goals because even though I plan to go into cybersecurity, the skills I’ve obtained from working here have helped me realize that communicating clearly, solving problems, and working with the team are all things that I will need in the professional Setting of this field I’m looking to get into. This job has helped me prepare for future roles by teaching me how to stay organized, responsible, and professional in different situations.
