A business is composed of many parts to operate efficiently and effectively. This can include departments such as finance that keep track of the company’s budget, assets, liabilities, and revenue allocation to promote growth. Another example could include human resources which oversees the human aspects of business such as talent acquisition, onboarding and offboarding practices, and resolving internal conflicts within the company. Leadership roles can fit into the organization by ensuring that team productivity is consistent. Managers do this by training and cultivating productive habits within the team and setting an example for expectations. Each department is different but works together to improve and grow the company.

The information technology department’s key role in an organization is to maintain availability of computer systems and confidentiality of assets and data. This can include tasks such as maintaining availability of all systems and networks the entire company uses. While also monitoring for any potential cyber threats that could negatively impact the company. IT department should be organized into two separate departments with information technology and cybersecurity. However, certain organizations have both departments as one which can take away from the focus on security. Having these two departments separated helps emphasize cybersecurity by having a sole department dedicated to protecting the company against cyber threats. As cyber threats become more prominent, it is important to focus specifically on protecting data and the network. While cybersecurity can focus on this, IT department can focus more on availability of systems and troubleshooting. However, it is vital that both departments have effective communication with one another as lacking this can result in poor implementation and effectiveness. While each department’s role may be unique to their respective department, they all share the same goal of aiding and growing the organization.
