The Cybersecurity role I’m going to discuss about the system administrator. System administrator can be a group of people or just one singular person. There main responsibilities are to setup and maintain a system or certain parts of it. They deal with all aspects of the hardware and software side of the systems mean they are responsible for updating hardware and configuration. This role manages user accounts and in charge of technical security controls. System admins play a huge role in dealing with all types of threats within the company. They are the “first line of defense” in dealing with a threat. With this role having to deal with user accounts they have to be able to manage and assign accounts the correct permissions, so they don’t have an insider threat. Another important thing that system admin has to do is implanting and enforcing the program policies. They will get notifications from the intrusion detection software and have to be able to have an immediate response to stop the threat. Being the first point of contact these individuals have to inform the people above them to ensure the system is still safe. System administrator is the direct contact point to user support on smaller systems but if the system is big enough, they will have the service desk team being the first person to try to troubleshoot the problem. If they can’t figure it out, they will pass it up to the system admin team and they will move forward with the problem. System admins are in charge of the overall health of the system by maintaining backups and updates this will continue to keep the system up and running.
