Composition

One element of this course was compositions. There were a few throughout the semester, and they helped to connect important elements of business into the Spanish language. The example I have included is a business letter to a client. This artifact exemplifies knowledge of business terms and negotiations in the Spanish language, which directly correlate with business in the United States. I have also noted that this assignment has helped me learn how to properly write a letter of business, and I can use this in the world of business in my future.

Discussion Board

Discussion boards were another important element of this course. Each discussion board posed a different important topic about the world of business, challenging us to compare certain aspects of business with those from the hispanic world. Doing this was very beneficial for me because it gave me the ability to think critically about the topics at hand. In addition, each board required responses to my classmates, which was also beneficial because I was able to compare my perspective with those of my peers. This aspect of the discussion boards compelled me to broaden my though process and evaluate my own opinion on the topics. I have included a link to one of my responses for a discussion board above. The topic of the one I have included is “El papel de la mujer en el mundo laboral. Legislación.” Finally, the discussion boards gave me a chance to improve my speaking skills and my ability to think in the moment because the responses are not scripted. I was able to gain more confidence in my speaking ability and my speed of speech as well.

Country Project

The country project was, in my opinion, the most immersive assignment I completed this semester because it required me to learn about all major aspects of one spanish speaking country. The country I did this project on is Costa Rica, and I feel like I learned a lot about how they conduct business as well as their culture. First, the textbook was very useful because there were a few pages dedicated to information solely about Costa Rica, and I was able to learn an immense amount of information from those pages alone. I have included one page from the book that was helpful to me.

However, the book did not include everything. Because of this, I used the internet to check some of the information which helped me learn even more about the country. For example, the President listed in the image above is no longer the current president, and I checked various other information for accuracy as well. This project also helped me with my writing skills because the information required was put into an essay format. Overall, the country project gave me the chance to broaden my speaking and writing, and allowed me to learn about a new culture and their business habits. The writing part of this assignment is below, and it shows all of the information I have learned about Costa Rica from the book and the internet.
