How should we approach the development of cyber-policy and infrastructure given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge?:
Modern technology lets us act on a scale that affects the whole world for a long time, sometimes in ways we cannot undo. Because technical innovation now shapes so much of life, our moral thinking must guide how we design and use technology through public policy. This means we need a new kind of ethics focused on long-term responsibility. One that considers not only people alive today, but also future generations. The “Short Arm” article by Jonas talks about the moral uncertainty involved with the expansion of technology. I think that the current generations need to think more wisely about our world’s future, it’s our moral obligation. We need to preserve the world, not destroy it due to human greed.
