End-of-term Reflection

One topic that was covered during this semester was gene activation/inhibition. I was able to make a connection between that and lots of coursework, not only from this semester. Previously I had been introduced/learned a bit on epigenetics in physiological psychology, on-going research I do for fun, and most recently my current child psychology class. With that being said, it was not until learning about all the intricate details of gene activation/inhibition that I was truly able to begin wrapping my head around the complexity of epigenetics. Genetics are something I am truly fascinated by and never get tired of learning. Being able to “zoom” into, and learn the process itself that either turns on or off a gene was amazing. I realized that although it seems like such a small act—turning on or off a gene—it can simply be the trigger to a huge affect depending on the specific gene.
