My name is Carolyn Olortegui, I am the Staff Assistant and Intern Coordinator for Congressman Don Beyer VA-08. I am reaching out to various colleges and universities in Virginia to bring awareness to our office’s internship program! Below I have attached information regarding our Summer 1 and Summer 2 internships – each with be about 2 months long.

The Office of Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented intern to work remotely in a fast-paced Congressional office.

Intern responsibilities include answering phones, researching legislation, attending virtual hearings and briefings, and answering constituent letters on various issues before the House. Interns will also assist in various administrative tasks as needed. As a result, the intern will learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Our summer internship is split into Summer 1 and Summer 2. The term of these paid internships will be from May to June and July to August 2021 (exact dates are flexible). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, at this time interns will solely work remotely for the duration of the internship and be provided the appropriate work equipment.

Interested applicants should submit their application with dates of availability on Paid Internships | U.S. Representative (house.gov) which will open in February 2021. Interest in politics – prior experience (either in electoral politics, government, etc) and working toward a degree in Political Science/Government, Public Policy, Economics, Journalism, Business or related field is a plus though not required. Women, LGBTQ+, and minority candidates are encouraged to apply. All applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, disability, or age.

District and Virginia ties are encouraged but not required. No phone calls, follow-ups or drop-ins, please. The deadline to submit applications is March 26th. No drop-ins or calls please.
