Qualifications: Applicants should be enrolled in school full-time, and have strong communication skills, a minimum 3.0 GPA, and major in political science, public affairs, public policy, or other related fields.

Interns should be motivated and interested in government and public service. Preference will be given to Virginia residents and in-state college students. The schedule can be flexible and negotiable.

Interns may seek college credit or be paid for their work, depending on school policy. (Note: at ODU we permit students to seek credit for paid internships except in some fields like medicine where accreditation policies ban it — Dr. Richman).

They will perform various administrative tasks such as greeting guests, checking the mail, answering constituent phone calls and drafting correspondence in addition to various special projects within the district. This experience will allow them the opportunity to witness the daily functioning of a US Senate Regional Office and gain valuable experience in the field of government.
