Modern Threats

Hello all, today my blog will not just be any ordinary blog. I will be talking about one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts in the history of the United States. This heist pulled off by Malone Lam or better known as “Robin Hood of South Beach” was something that couldn’t quite be measured in value. Malone had allegedly stolen over $230 million dollars in cryptocurrency, that number is a rough estimation as well, the government is still tracking all of his expenses. Malone’s story is perhaps particular one would say, not only was the amount of money that he had stolen attributed to the popularity of his case but his personal life caught the attention of most. Malone Lam wasn’t born a United States citizen, nor was he ever a U.S. citizen. Malone Lam was a 24 year old man from Singapore. Malone wasn’t just any other man, he was an opportunist, an opportunist who would stop at nothing for glory even if it were to be at the cost of innocent lives.

Malone had flown over from Singapore to the United States during the year 2023 in the month of October. He had utilized a visa program at the time that had allowed tourists from other countries to have 90 days of leisure time in the United States. Malone had overstayed his welcome turning his 90 day vacation into a year-long vacation. It was also found in court documents that Malone was able to be so evasive in fleeing from the law due to the fact that he had no established “home address” on file. He would spend most of his time in California or Florida, traveling west to east coast by jet. It was reported that Malone had spent most of his cash at nightclubs, luxury stores, and on Airbnb’s for a place to rest at night. Malone was often seen wearing brands like Alexander Mcqueen, Rolex, and Louis Vuitton.

Malone was also reported to have over thirty supercars, 15 of which were placed at his “favorite” Airbnb in Miami. Malone would attend top level nightclubs and spend ridiculous amounts of cash to gain the feeling of power, confidence, and love. There were many reports that Malone would often spend six figures a night on tabs at nightclubs, he would not only buy himself the most expensive items on the menu but also buy everyone at the nightclub the same items he is consuming. It was stated as well that he was seen giving out Birkin purses and louis vuitton glasses to random people he would meet at the nightclubs with no ask of anything in return.  How did Malone get all of this money?

Well, he had hopped onto a call with 6 of his other friends and had found a way to orchestrate the perfect social engineering attack. He had located a very rich investment banker and had watched all of the bankers social media to catch any information on how to get into contact with the banker. He had found a way to get into contact with the investment banker by posing as a google representative, he had fooled the banker into giving away his password. After gaining his password, he had logged into the bankers google account and had found access to crypto wallets, he had wired himself $230 million dollars. He had lived a crazy life and live streamed most of it, but he was caught like most and is now serving trial in Washington DC.
