Your First Semester

From the beginning of the semester to now, I feel as if I have grown more academically. I made sure to keep track of my schedule so that I could get everything done on time, even if it was last minute. I made sure to take a lot of notes so that I could study them, and I have slowly developed better study habits. My expectations for this semester weren’t really that high, due to the fact that it would all be new to me, so I didn’t want to have high expectations and then be upset by it not being met. However, for the most part everything went fine, I personally feel as if everything went the way that I wanted it all to go. I did more school events then I thought that I was going to do, and I went out more than I thought that I was going to. One thing I wish I knew fourteen weeks ago was how depressing and isolating everything is and how to accommodate for that feeling.

Study Habits

I’m not going to lie, but in the beginning of the semester I didn’t really put that much effort into studying for my classes except for Chemistry, which was my hardest class in the beginning. Now as the semester is ending I have definitely put in more effort when it comes to studying because I want to pass all of my exams with flying colors. My study habits have changed by me looking at my notes more than I used to and my creating flashcards and practicing with them. Monarch Onesearch is the resource that I used this semester that will definitely help me next semester. I used it for my history research project and it was very helpful, so I’ll definitely use it again. I think that I will take the same study habits with me into the next semester as they seem to be helping, the only thing that I would do differently is spending more time studying.

Health Professions Learning Community

CHEM105N and CHEM106N both build on each other. One is a lab and the other one is a lecture, so both the information that you gain from being in one of those classes can be applied to the other one, therefore gaining a better understanding. Sociology explored the human society, interactions and structures that shaped our lives, gaining a deeper understanding on how societies function, and how social factors impact individuals and dynamics of power and inequality. History is kinda the same thing, as we look back on why and how each historical period or civilization acted the way that they did. Intro to health services, helped introduce students to different occupations in the health science field. All of these cover different subject areas, but they provide insight to society, health, history helping students develop a broader understanding of the world around them.

Parallel Plan

Two other majors that I would be interested in doing would be public health and health administration. Both majors can provide a broader understanding of healthcare. Public health can help you understand social, environmental, and behavior factors that can impact health outcomes. Health administration focuses on the management and organization of the health system. Having more than one plan for yourself is very helpful so that you don’t get stressed. Depending on your major, you might not always get in, so having that backup plan can help you navigate unexpected challenges or circumstances. The last reason being that having a parallel plan could open new opportunities that you probably wouldn’t have had if you stayed with your primary plan.
