Mid-Semester Reflection
Study Habits
The classes that I am doing really well in Introduction Chemistry and Film Appreciation. With chemistry, I’m doing all of the homework that will help understand the material and a lot of the information was memorization so I create flashcards to help me memorize everything. For film appreciation, we are assigned different chapters that correspond to what part of the film we are analyzing, such as coloring or lighting. Reading the chapter helps with analyzing the movie that we have to write about. The class that I seem to be struggling with the most is Chemistry Lab. I seem to be struggling on the experiment aspect of the lab, as the post-lab questions tend to be correct. What I will do the next time that I get a lab with a bad grade on it, is ask the teacher what it is that I need to fix and what I could have done better.
Transition to College
The expectations that I had coming into college was that it would be very hard and that there would be lots of work assigned to me. Those expectations are kinda true for some classes, like Chemistry Lab and Introduction to the American Past, but not so much for classes like Sociology and Film Appreciation. Going into college I definitely expected myself to be more social than I actually am and make a lot of new friends. I did make some friends but I did realize I’m not really social enough to put myself through that. The toughest challenge about being away from home is definitely not having home cooked meals. Eating from the dining hall and the Webb Center everyday is certainly getting annoying because it’s always the same food being served. The easiest thing about living on campus is being away from my family. Being away from them is definitely helping me as they don’t annoy me as much anymore.
Major
I don’t think that I learned anything about my major that I didn’t know just yet. My feelings towards my major haven’t changed at all. The only thing I feel in relation to my major is nervousness. It worries me about what will happen if I don’t get into the nursing program as I didn’t really have a backup plan for myself. I am now starting to look into what I could be minoring in. I am thinking of minoring in marketing or something computer related since I have some experience in those areas.
Connecting To Campus
Time management is something that is a bit challenging. I can turn in my work on time, but I tend to procrastinate until the last minute to do everything and now that it’s the middle of the semester it’s starting to become hard to do. I think what I will do that will make everything better is to put what assignments I will do on what day so that I don’t fall behind and feel overloaded with work. My friend Marissa has been a huge help because we have some of the same classes, so we do some of our work together and we try to keep each other on track. I tried to rush for a sorority but I didn’t seem like something that I was really interested in so I dropped out.
Guest Speaker/Field Trips
The guest speaker/field trip that I liked the most was the one where we went to the health science building and got to learn a little bit about Nuclear Medicine Technology. The instructor that was talking did state that those that come in as a nursing major tend to be the ones that switch to Nuclear Medicine. I would like to see a guest that works in labor and delivery just to see what it is like to work there.
