Prior knowledge of Hispanic identities:
Before this class, my real life exposure to hispanic culture was lacking. From what I had been told from my hispanic friends, religion and family were very important growing up. I had known a little bit about the culture of music and dance. I listen to Spanish music and have seen the dances. I had heard about a few traditions and holidays. I had also seen the hype surrounding the World Cup every year and assumed that sports were a huge part of hispanic communities and identities. From other classes, I’ve also gained a generally good book knowledge of Latin America’s economy. I knew some of the characteristics of the Latin American workforce, trade, and production. Other past classes have taught me about the history of colonization, which forms part of the hispanic identity.
Below, I have attached some of my assignments from the semester. These illustrate how my understanding of hispanic culture has deepened and expanded.
