
Protecting availability is important to how a company functions, whether it’s the internal aspect only available to employees and partners, or the front-end available for the wider public to see and interact with. To protect availability, and make sure that it stays available for those that need to interact with those networks, I would include redundancies in data, and network infrastructure, tools to prevent the loss of data in the event of unauthorized access, or damage to the network(s), and data fragmentation.

Redundancies in a network make sure that in the event that part of the network goes down for whatever reason, it has a backup. or a set up backups it can fall back in to keep the network up and running, at least in part. An example of this would be setting different ports on a router or a switch to run in the even the primary port is damaged or breached. Another would be having different servers in different locations with the same information contained within them, so if one location goes down, or maintenance has to be performed, it doesn’t compromise the whole operation for a time; people can simply switch to using a different server.
Loss prevention tools are also important for protecting availability. Data loss prevention helps to make sure that information and data are safety secured and monitored so that breaches and access to that information aren’t liable to occur. This protects the information so that those who are authorized to see and use it can do so safely, and more readily. Something that goes hand in hand with this is data fragmentation. Data that is split between different devices or server locations are much harder to access, yet they have the ability to still be available to those that need to access it with the right credentials. The data can be accessed all at once if need be, and formed into one full piece of data, rather than stay fragmented for security reasons.
