About LeADERS

The distinction of LeADERS has been one of the most valuable aspects of my education and professional career since it forced me to bridge my expertise in cybersecurity and data science to the knowledge and skills that would allow me to communicate, apply ethics, and engage in effective learning. For me, the LeADERS designation is a symbol of deliberate growth and a reflection of those times when I moved past mere assignment completion and started thinking like a professional responsible for protecting systems, analyzing data, and making decisions.

My Journey within LeADERS has allowed me to appreciate the way that skills such as analytical reasoning, problem solving, and ethical considerations could come into play in terms of my future within the field of cybersecurity and as a data analyst.
As a result of taking CPD 395: CompTIA Security+, I gained the knowledge base that any security specialist must have. Learning about threats, vulnerabilities, and risks gave me insight into approaching cybersecurity problems systematically. The attacker’s point of view, the possibility of system failure, and the fundamentals of defense strategy became much more evident. Furthermore, giving the the skills to prepare to take the Security+ exam this summer. Additionally, having good communication skills became an essential component of cybersecurity studies due to its significance in decision making.

My internship in cybersecurity in CYSE 368 made things real for me. The professional setting meant that I could not only apply but do so in a dynamic and unpredictable environment. As a result of the practice of monitoring, recording, and reacting to events, I got acquainted with teamwork, question formation, and careful handling of sensitive data. Furthermore, I assisted faculty and students with technical issues involving their devices on campus. It became clear to me that the link between cybersecurity and data science is that logging and alerts are not only pieces of data but rather a narrative about what is going on in the system. The analysis of such narratives made me believe in myself and gave me a vision of my future self as an analyst.Click here for related course work.

Moreover, IDS 300W: Interdisciplinary Theory & Concepts gave me insight into the way different disciplines, theories, and methodologies are combined in order to tackle complicated situations. The nature of cybersecurity and data science is such that both these disciplines are interdisciplinary in the true sense of the word since they incorporate technological, ethical, psychological, organizational, and policy considerations among others. In the context of IDS 300W, I realized that cybersecurity cannot be understood through a narrow technical lens since there are wider implications to consider as well. Through my studies in CYSE 425W: Cyber Strategy and Policy, I have come to take a broader view of cybersecurity, considering its strategic and ethical dimensions. Policy analysis assignments, along with the assessment of national cyber strategy policies, have provided insight into how higher-level decisions impact the work of analysts and engineers on the ground. My learning experience within this course has enabled me to gain a more mature perspective on the field of cybersecurity as a discipline that encompasses technology, legislation, ethics, and communications. What made the LeADERS experience meaningful to me is that it bridged everything come together. The LeADERS experience gave me the opportunity to realize that being a cybersecurity and data science expert is not simply about possessing certain skills or achieving a certain certification. Instead, it involves being able to think critically, communicate effectively, and be of good character. It involves being aware of the human aspect associated with the data and the accountability associated with each security-related decision. With LeADERS, I was able to realize the progress I made, recognize my strengths, and connect my experiences with my future plans as a cybersecurity data analyst.

In conclution, the LeADERS distinction helped me develop a more solid professional identity. The LeADERS distinction helped me start working within the profession confidently, knowing my role and skills. As a result of the LeADERS program, I became aware of the importance of my role in cyber security, and now I’m prepared to fulfill my responsibilities and take on the work force.
