Why this skill works: These artifacts show that you understand cybersecurity beyond technical labs. Researching AI threats, examining security frameworks, and working on information assurance all demonstrate your ability to investigate problems and understand why security decisions matter.

Skill 3: Leadership, Communication & Professional Responsibility

This is where I’d use your experience as a manager at Zumiez.

Your first two skills demonstrate what you’ve learned through your cybersecurity education. This third skill shows that you also have professional experience working with people, handling responsibilities, and solving problems outside the classroom.

You don’t need to pretend that retail management is the same as cybersecurity. Instead, show how the skills you’ve developed at work can transfer into a professional technology environment.

About This Skill

Working as a manager at Zumiez has helped me develop skills that I can use in pretty much any career. My job involves communicating with different people, helping the team stay organized, and handling situations that don’t always go as planned. I’ve learned how important it is to stay calm, be dependable, and take responsibility when something needs to get done. Even though retail management is different from cybersecurity, I think these experiences will help me work with others, communicate problems clearly, and handle responsibilities in a professional environment.

For this section, I want to be upfront about something: I found your Zumiez management experience in our previous conversations, but I haven’t recovered three specific work documents or projects from that job. I don’t want to make up artifacts and have you submit something that doesn’t reflect your actual experience.

Here are three ways to build this section using real evidence from your work.

Artifact 7: Retail Management and Daily Operations

Skill demonstrated: Leadership and Professional Responsibility

Possible artifact: A work-related project, an appropriate performance review, a training document, or another existing document that demonstrates your responsibilities as a manager.
