Questions of DNA and Security

BLUF: DNA is a very risky subject in the cyberspace as it’s one of our most important PII that hackers can use to exploit.

Our privacy is extremely at risk from digitizing our DNA. PII is already an important field that everyone must protect. DNA would almost act as the ultimate PII as it’s unique to every single person and can never exactly replace it either if it’s ever compromise.

DNA can be easily used against you if it’s ever stolen. Similar to SSN it can be used for impersonation and identity fraud. However, the main difference is SSN can be replaced but DNA cannot.

As mentioned before the digitalization of DNA can be used primarily for impersonation. DNA gives access to many biometric authenticator that you would normally not be able to get into. This also allows for some health insurance scams by manipulating DNA to show people have diseases that they don’t actually have. Along with that criminals are able to cover up their crimes by putting the DNA of someone innocent at the scene of the crime.

Overall, the digitalization of DNA proves to a great risk to a person’s privacy and possible involvement in crimes without even knowing. DNA in the digital space can seem like high reward for health organization but a very high risk to individuals
