Course Reflection

Outcome.

Throughout this course, I was able to obtain a deeper understanding of French. Although grammar and vocabulary were a large portion of our work through connect work, reading the textbook also informed me on cultural aspects of other French-speaking countries. For example, in chapter 10 we learned about traditions and celebrations, these celebrations were interesting to acknowledge holidays that are not officially celebrated in America. Throughout the semester we also learned about life in other areas like Quebec and other French-speaking cities.

Experience

Outside of the classroom, the information learned can be utilized in different ways. While reading text from other classes, it is easier to understand the context and meaning of English words derived from the French language.  The knowledge of another language also helps with communication. While working in another course, I was able to briefly converse with a child who only spoke French.  Also, with the knowledge learned about holidays, I am able to understand cultures that differ from my own. For example, the celebration of Ramadan.

Transfer

I can apply information learned to either help or communicate effectively with others. For example, if needed, as a teacher I can communicate with students from French-speaking countries.
