Discover Yourself in College

I know most of us can relate to saying “college would never change us” when we were seniors in high school. We heard so much about how people grew apart from one another, despite being friends since freshman year of high school or earlier. However, change is not always bad… though it may involve outgrowing some of our relationships.

If you make the most of your college experience, you will change from meeting many people from different backgrounds and lifestyles. These people will expose you to various opportunities in life that you probably did not imagine for yourself. You will gain experience from doing the things you thought you would never do and end up discovering what you really like and don’t like!

So take action and get out of your comfort zone! Go to that social event, professional conference, student organization meeting, and whatever else you think you might have the slightest interest in! Even if you think you don’t like it, give it at least one shot. You will never know what you really like and don’t like unless you give it a try!

Bonus tip: No need to cater every experience to your future career! Most of us end up changing our majors a few times… Get a job or internship in a field that is seemingly unrelated to your future career. You can always find a way to relate your newfound experience and skills to your career field through identifying transferable skills!
