How do I find Internships?

Internships are usually conducted in the summer of your junior year of college and they help you to gain insight to the type of career that you may want to get. Some internships run for only 8 weeks and some span for the entirety of your summer. These can be formatted to be hands-on and exactly like the job you will be doing or they may be hands-off and more of an assistant type position.

Either opportunity that you may find can always have some benefits to them, it is very important to look for the type of internship that is being offered to be sure that you are doing something that you would like.

In order to find internships it is important to always be networking, meeting professionals in their field and then connecting with people that are where you want to be in life. Those methods are usually the best way to be in ‘the know’ about different opportunities.

Apart from networking, making a profile on the ODU affiliated log-in with Handshake, is important to search for internships that are directly related to what you want to do. On Handshake you will find recruiter information to email them directly, a place to upload your resume and activities, as well as a place to apply for internships directly.

The functions in Handshake are formatted to be able accessible and easy to use. Handshake is the best first step to finding an internship for any student, junior or not!
