With midterms quickly approaching, preparation is key. Before your exams, create some type of study guide for each course. This can range from you having all your notes, PowerPoints, flash cards or creating a study guide of all the material. Most professors create a study guide of the materials. If not, you can take the initiative to create your own study guide. In addition, utilize professor office hours, don’t wait until the last minute. This is extremely effective if you have already created a study guide and have gone through the guide, then meet up with your professor to discuss areas of confusion and help to solidify your knowledge of the exam materials even further. Furthermore, ensuring that you have ample time to study is critical to doing well on an exam. Budget at least one full week of study time leading up to the test, so you can have time to review parts that are complex and require more effort. While studying, it is important to take breaks and stay hydrated before returning to the material. Studying for hours is not effective, especially when you have a fair amount of material to go over. Taking incremental breaks allows your brain to reset and come back stronger for studying.
