Keeping Up with College

Compared to high school, the pace of college moves much quicker, and not just the classes. If you’re a freshman, going back to school after starting a career, or even just sluggish from quarantine, the fast-track environment of college can be overwhelming.

If you find yourself feeling this way, or having trouble keeping up so far, don’t worry because you are not alone. Everyone, even the juniors and seniors, have to give themselves an adjustment period at the beginning of each semester.

When it comes to classes, they will move quicker than your courses did in high school. This means you will need to stay on top of your homework and dedicate the time needed to study for each class. Sometimes this can feel like a chore, especially if the class is boring, but it will pay off in the future. Trust me.

The pace of campus itself can also be very different than what you may be used to. With activity fairs (virtual or in person), clubs, organization meetings, moving dorms or apartments every year, and more: there is always movement on and around campus. Old Dominion also has a large population of students who commute, so you will see new faces every day.

The adjustment into your new schedule may take some time, but before you know it, you will feel comfortable and capable of handling it. The important thing, is to conquer one task a time and give your full effort to each and every part of your day.
