Stay in "the loop" with all things related to Academic Success Mentoring

A letter to my past self:

Dear Freshman Year me:

Congratulations on getting into ODU! You are going to do great things here, I just know it. I want you to take this time and grow as an individual, and learn to be a better person for yourself. Take this independent time and blossom into your own self! Learn good habits, make your bed every morning, fuel your body and mind. If I could do one thing differently it would be to get out of your comfort zone more than you did, grow into who you are supposed to be, the person you always dreamed of being. In your training you learned about these things called comfort circles, the smallest circle is engulfed by a slightly bigger one and then one last big one that covers it all, pictures attached below. The smallest circle is your comfort zone, it’s where you enjoy being and where you stay at most of your days, however when you stay there too long it seems to shrink and not really grow with you. The next circle which is right outside of your comfort zone is the growth zone, and boy do I love that zone. This is where you end up when you step outside of your comfort zone, this zone allows you to grow and expand your life in ways you would have never been to if you hadn’t gotten out of your comfort zone. Lastly the biggest circle is the danger zone, do your best not to get to that zone, an example of the danger zone for me would be going off campus with people that I just met, that experience would not allow me to grow my comfort zone but it would place me in the danger zone so try not to go there if possible. Live in the growth zone and see how much you will be able to accomplish!!! Reign On!

Sincerely,

Future me 🙂
