Over the years the way people watch and consume sports has changed significantly. Personally my self my own sports media diet changes all the time and evolves. I use to watch full games on ESPN and follow the highlights on Sports center and check teams websites for updates. At the time I didn’t use social media as a form or source of information.

Today my sports diet looks very different and is far from the same. As I still watch live sports like college baseball, football and basketball as well as the pros. But most of my information and sports media content comes from the social media platforms and accounts. Personally I use Twitter/X and Instagram to get highlights and see the cool information from the games. Like the short video clips, behind the scenes stuff, interviews. As I can see moments seconds right after they happen which is very cool. Podcast have became a huge part of my diet especially if its about sports development or players experiences I love to listen to them in my free time. Also If I want to watch highlights from games especially college baseball I go straight to a platform on youtube called wheels. He uploads most of the games and all of the highlights on them and its super neat.

In the upcoming years I believe sport consumption will become more digital and personalized. Streaming services will likely keep dominating the cable television. Maybe Ai can make some cool advanced analytics and provide customized highlights based on interest. I think that the short form of content will continue to grow as fans look for quicker info to games.

If I had the ability to change one thing about the sports communication and sports platforms. I would change the accessibility to live sports and less fragmented across different streaming platforms. Right now games are spread across different subscriptions. While certain teams stream through one subscriptions while others stream through a different. It would be ideal if everything can be through the same. Making it easier to access and improve the online fan experience.

In general, my use of sports media has changed from traditional television to quick, individualized, and digital information. The ways we watch and participate in sports will change as technology does. I think that change is going to be for the better and it will truly help sports as well allowing whoever to watch what they want. As a student athlete staying informed off the field can be just as important as it is on it.
