In today’s world there have been many advancements with technology. These advancements have evolved, many advancements leading to crime. Crime used to occur face to face, but now in today’s society it can occur on the internet. Cyber criminals can do just as much damage as someone who is a criminal (not online). Crimes that occur on the internet are just as punishable as crimes that are done in person. Cyber technology has impacted interactions between offenders and victims in different ways. Internet users could fall victim to crime on the internet and not be aware of it. Also, since many people are unaware of the crime they are putting themselves susceptible to, this impacts the future victims. There are also life changing things that occur over the internet. People could develop a phobia towards anything cyber related and this impacts the interaction between the offender and the victim. These victims that experience cyber crime may develop a such thing called “cyber trauma”. If there is an incident that occurs then they may feel symptoms such as fear, sadness, anger, develop nightmares and have flashbacks of the incident. There are also many other effects that cyber crime has on individuals. If an offender hacks into a company’s software, then they can steal the information and sell it for profit. Cyber technology makes it easier for the offender since they are not there stealing the information face to face, rather working behind a computer screen. These cyber crimes can lead anyone who has been a victim to believe that they cannot trust anything or any network that they once did, their information can be easily compromised, and that they have lost their privacy. A way that individuals can prevent themselves from being a target of cyber crime is to know what cyber criminals target.
