Research Proposal:
This proposal was the first step in developing my final research paper. During this assignment, I began narrowing down my topic, which focused on the effectiveness of next generation firewalls (NGFWs) in modern cybersecurity. I created an outline that helped guide the overall direction of my paper and introduced the main idea of evaluating how effective these systems are in real-world situations. I also developed an introduction that explained the importance of cybersecurity and why firewalls are necessary. In addition, I identified the methods I would use for my research, which included analyzing existing studies and performance data. Most importantly, I determined the key areas I would focus on, such as detection rates, response times, advanced technologies like AI, and the limitations of NGFWs.

Annotated Bibliography:
In this annotated bibliography, I gathered and analyzed the sources that I would use in my final research paper. This assignment required at least seven credible sources, including peer-reviewed articles and books related to cybersecurity. For each source, I wrote a summary explaining its main ideas and how it connects to my research topic. This process helped me better understand the different perspectives on NGFWs and how they are evaluated. It also made it easier to compare and connect information across sources when writing my paper. Additionally, I formatted all citations in APA style, which allowed me to directly use them in my final research paper. This assignment played a major role in building my discussion and results sections since most of the data and analysis came from these sources.

Final Research Paper:
This final research paper represents the result of all the work I completed throughout the semester. Using my proposal and annotated bibliography as a foundation, I developed a full research paper focused on evaluating the effectiveness of next generation firewalls. The paper includes an introduction, methodology, discussion, and results section, all supported by evidence from my sources. Through this research, I was able to show that NGFWs are more effective than traditional firewalls in detecting and preventing modern cyber threats due to their use of advanced technologies like deep packet inspection and artificial intelligence. However, I also found that they are not a complete solution, especially when dealing with threats that rely on human error, such as phishing. Overall, this paper demonstrates that NGFWs are a strong cybersecurity tool, but they must be used as part of a layered security approach.
