Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

Physiological Needs

If I were to compare the basic needs of life to my experience with technology, I would say it is incomparable, as I do not need any technology to continue living. It would be great if I had it, but I do not need it.

Safety Needs

The safety aspect of the hierarchy compared with my experience with technology can be related to when I was younger. Every time I used my computer my dad would always ensure that the virus protection plans on my devices were up to date. He would also educate me on the dangers of the internet, informing me not to open or click any link I see, to always be aware of the site you’re visiting and to recognize if it is safe or not.

Belongingness and Love Needs

This subject is likely relatable to many people, as social media allows people to feel a part of something. When I first got into social media, the platform that I joined was Instagram and I remember all my peers from school would post selfies and different pictures. Even though I am camera shy and rarely post on social media, I would post a picture or two, to try and fit in or join the trends of asking and answering questions to help make friends.

Esteem Needs

This topic is also relatable to many people as social media allows people to post their accomplishments, allowing all of their peers to view them. Many people and including me at times would think that they are not doing good enough in life when they compare themselves to others online. That is one part that I can relate self-esteem needs to. Social media can allow a lower self-esteem if you let it but when you post your accomplishments, and your peers recognize and congratulate you it can be a jolt of confidence.

Self-actualization

I have gotten to a certain point where I realize that if you use technology in negative ways, it will not benefit you. I have realized that in the current society we live in many things are technological. There is a lot of money in technology right now, so in order for me to achieve my full potential I need to be creative and use technology to my advantage where I can become successful.
