Then, complete the Social Media Disorder scaleLinks to an external site..  How did you score?

What do you think about the items in the scale?

Why do you think that different patterns are found across the world?

After completing the social media disorder scale, I said no to every question. I have never been invested in social media and joining the military at a young age never propelled me into it. I hardly ever use social media and find myself the most time on TikTok or Instagram before bed for some basic entertainment. I have never felt dependent or needed to upload a new post to satisfy anyone else. I thought the items in the scale were very straightforward and I know others that would answer yes to most questions on the scale. When I was a child, I would hear my parents argue with my older siblings about their usage of social media, and I believe that influenced me to not be very social media dependent. I think the scale accurately depicts a disordered social media user. I think that different patterns are found across the world as different cultures and people are very different from one another. Some countries are also very poor, not allowing them access to social media like Western countries. In the United States, habitual social media usage is terrible and has continued to worsen as children’s dreams are to become social media influencers instead of astronauts or pilots. I believe that culture has a massive impact on patterns as well. A more traditional culture will have less social media impact than the open culture of most Americans. The different patterns will always be influenced by a variety of factors that come down to the individual person.
