Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture
Watching a video of Spanish speakers talking about what sports they played gave me some insight on the culture in Spain and what sports are more popular compared to the US. One obvious example of this would be baseball. Baseball is very popular over here, but in Spain almost nobody talks about or plays it.
Engaging in Communities
Engaging in your immediate community can be helpful because it allows you to connect more with people close to you. Engaging in your global community can help you understand different cultures and practices around the world.
Interpersonal Communication
TalkAbroad was a neat activity that took the Spanish conversation exercises I was used to and put a spin on them, having me talk to a native Spanish speaker. My speaking partner was a person from Nicaragua. We had a pretty engaging conversation and she made it easy to follow along by staying simple with her vocabulary.
The TalkAbroad conversation helped me grow in the sense that I didn’t struggle as much to understand Spanish words from the topic we discussed. I still had some trouble following some of the words being said, but it was very easy to improve on that thanks to my speaking partner.
Discussion Boards were a source of growth because it allowed me to connect with my classmates a little more and get their opinions/insight on certain cultural topics regarding Spanish speakers.
Presentational Speaking
This semester I completed only 1 speaking presentation assignment. This was about well-being and if I was feeling sick or not in the past week.
For this assignment I felt that I exceled at getting my point across but struggled a bit with figuring out what the video I was responding to was saying. I had to rewatch a few times to understand everything.
Interpretive Listening
Listening activities I had to do this semester included listening to a video of my professor asking questions. I had to answer these questions in complete sentences and thought I did a pretty decent job.
