TalkAbroad Impression #1
Talk Abroad Reflection #1
My partner’s name was Patrick Franc. He is 57 years old and lives in Montreal, Quebec. At the moment, he lives away from his family. When he was young he loved to play volleyball. In fact, he was in a valley ball club. He enjoyed swimming in pools. He also enjoyed surfing and jet-skiing in the summer. He is an extremely well-traveled man. He has been all across the Americas, and he has traveled to Europe a few times as well. He has been to Cuba, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts, and many more states along the east coast and midwest. He has not been to the West Coast yet. His favorite foods are Italian, French, and Greek. He has had many pets in his life and currently has 3 cats at home. We spent a lot of time talking about where we have traveled and what we enjoyed doing and eating.
I found the Talk abroad to be very fun. Patrick was a nice man to speak to and had a lot of great stories. He also took some of his time to educate me on a few words that I did not know in French. I learned that sheep was brebis, goat was gâter, and geese were oies. There was a little bit of confusion, and I think I ended up saying that chickens, geese, sheep, and goats live inside of my house because I couldn’t remember how to say yard in French. Other than that, there were only a few occasions where I couldn’t understand what he said and had to have him repeat himself. I also found myself struggling with using past tense and future tense while talking to him. When I am writing, it is much easier but trying to do it in my head while speaking is very difficult. Overall, I am still very happy with how it went, and I feel somewhat confident in my ability to speak French. I am looking forward to the next Talk Abroad, and I hope it goes as well as this one did, if not better.
