Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

The first major that I think relates to cybersecurity is computer science. This major relates to cybersecurity because if you want to know how to make secure computers, you need to know how they work. Being able to write code and understand how a computer works is very important to making a secure network. You won’t be able to properly defend networks and data if you don’t know how to actually code.

            The second major that relates to cybersecurity has got to be computer engineering. I thought of this major because cybersecurity is not only about being able to secure online networks. You still need to be able to have a strong physical defense for computers. The computers also have to have high computing power. If it has higher computing power, it could possibly be able to defend against attacks more easily.

            Next, I want to discuss how cybersecurity relates to network engineering. Cybersecurity relates a lot to network engineering because to have a secure network, you need to know how to set up the defense. Having a network cannot help out organizations immensely, but that will not matter if it can be hacked by others easily. Network engineering is like the one who keeps everything together in a network, but cybersecurity is the one who makes sure they are able to do their job safely.

            Lastly, I want to show how Math majors are important to the world of cybersecurity. Cybersecurity requires strong math skills because of the things that you need to be able to do. Being able to know programming and encryption is also important to cybersecurity, and both of them require strong math skills. Math that is also related to data is important, too, because you need to analyze data that’s given to you.
