TA5

The above photo is a picture of a cross that my grandmother has gave me to always remember my faith in Christ, and to stay strong throughout the trial and tribulations I will go through in life. Christianity has been the biggest influence in my culture and my family. From building community and relationships with other Black Christians, all the way to holding certain moral values because of Christianity. Even my middle name was selected from the Bible. More importantly, I believe that in black culture (not all colored people identified as African-American), Christianity is not only a religion, but a lifestyle that a decent portion of us hold dearly to build community with each other, and to keep hope alive when living in a historically systematically racist country.

TA4

Shockingly, I only had one discrepancy with my parents’ values versus my own. The major difference between my parents and I was that I do not believe that human beings are predestined to live a fate that can be dreary for the sake of religious prophecies. I think because I live in a generation that is more focused on human development and potential, I am more optimistic about fate than they are, especially, since I was born into the age of technology where there are over millions of resources concerning how as an individualistic culture (American) we can navigate our own path. However, as far as the rest of my similar answers to theirs, they played a significant role in my present values and thought process. When I was younger, I held onto their every word concerning how to navigate life and weariness of people’s intentions.

TA3

The above photo represents the defining moment of my childhood; I had stood up to an older family member and fuss them out. The other three characters in the photo are my family members looking on in shock. Growing up, I was extremely shy to the point where I struggle making eye contact with people, I was always anxious, and I was quiet. One day, I got fed up with a family member constantly making disparaging remarks about everyone, so I fuss them out. From that moment on, my individual values I hold dear to this day that are hard to see in the photo are courage, bravery, showing no fear, and standing up for others and what you believe in.

TA2

Surprisingly, me and my partner responded almost identically except for the first job occupation despite our fifty-year generation gap and cultural upbringing (rural and city). Unfortunately, our responses showed that patriarchy was still prevalent in America because jobs that we deemed ‘masculine’ we associated with men. However, I associated doctors with a woman because anytime I have had exceptional healthcare, it was always because of female doctor or nurse practitioner. However, my partner associated a doctor with a male because during their upbringing, women as doctor’s was something that was considered impossible and preposterous.

TA1

I chose this image because it best represented the concept of matching colors to emotions.

I only found one association between my first category of colors and the results of emotions I chose for each color. Each color (blue, purple, red, violet) that I association with vibrant and strong, I had strong emotions that represented said category. However, for lighter colors that I felt were feminine (category 2 and 3), my emotions for the colors were no where close to what I was feeling. For instance, yellow is associated with happiness, yet, I associated the color with disgust. For some reason, the color yellow makes me feel nauseated and disgusted.
