Dear Jordan,
Over the course of this semester, I have learned a lot about writing and language arts that has helped get a better view on my writing skills and opinion towards the English subject. One of the main things I learned was how to do a rhetorical analyses and how to use rhetorical moves in writing. Rhetorical analyses is when you try to identify the authors main purpose for writing their piece and what their opinion or stance is on the subject. You evaluate the rhetorical moves they made throughout their writing and determine if they were effective in conveying the authors claim. Though doing my own rhetorical analyses essay and Op-Ed essay came to realized just how important it is to use good rhetorical moves in your writing to help validate your claim and make you seem as credible as possible. Some examples of good rhetorical choices to include in your writing is providing personal experiences related , adding factual information, and including other types of media that share the same opinion as yourself can greatly improve your writing and make you sound like a professional on your topic. I also learned how it is good to understand you audience and how you should try to tailor your writing towards the audience you mostly want to impact. Trying to appeal to everyone can often dimmish the impact your writing could have and make your stance not feel as grounded to one side as should be. By writing towards a specific audience, you make your piece feel more impactful to those who share your same ideals or opinions and make your piece sound like a credible source to others. Overall, I learned a lot in my English class about how to improve my writing and make good rhetorical choices to help in any form of media I make. I hope that I remember these lessons in the future so it can help me in my career as a civil engineer and make me a better employee compared to my other piers.
Sincerely ,
Me
