My major

My major is speech language pathology & Audiology. I have known for a long time that I want to work with kids. I have also known that helping others and positively impacting others lives makes me feel really good about myself. I took a class in which I did a practicum for a 1st Grade classroom. I loved the age group and the kids a lot. I also have a lot of respect for Mrs. McKee, the teacher. She would let me plan and present lessons, she really wanted to show me what it was like to be a teacher. She loved her job and she shared all the highs and lows with me. One thing I learned quickly is that a 18 to 1 ratio is very hard, and that a lot of other factors of teaching were undesirable to me. I was given an opportunity to go and sit in the speech pathologists classroom for a week. I came to really admire her job. She got to play games with the kids all day, she had one on ones with students, no more than 3 kids at a time, and the kids absolutely loved going to speech therapy. I started doing research and fell into rabbit holes about the science and just how fascinating it was, and the more I started to learn the more I wanted to become a Speech Language Pathologist.
