Today’s Cybersecurity challenges are becoming every time more challenging. In United states we are experience an enormous number of spams that can be harmful and nuisance. Most of the spam is sent from a type of malware called “Botnet” that counts for 76% of the spam sent globally. The top countries to host botnets are India, Vietnam, China, and Russia. There are three common forms of internet fraud using these email spams and the United States has been affected by 60% volume attacks globally, by one of this forms call “Phishing”, leading to an average loss of $1,800 per person or $20,000 when a company is involved. The second form of internet fraud is the “advance fee fraud scheme.” This method is utilized by email spam to the victims deceiving them constantly over a promise allowing the fraudster to cheat money over and over before the victim realized the “promise” is false. Nigeria is the most well-known country to perform these attacks.
A study shows that 90 countries have been designated a “low cybercrime countries” due to low GDP and low internet users per capita. We can find countries like, Angola, Bolivia, Laos. There are 16 countries in the “Advance Fee Fraud Specialist” including Nigeria as mentioned before including Italy, Jamaica, this category is also Low in GDP and internet connectivity. In the Non-serious Cybercrime countries, we can find U.S.A, Japan, Germany, France which refers to digital piracy and regular email spam. These countries you can find that have a remarkably high GDP making them the best target. Finally, we find 76 countries as “Phishing Specialists” like China, Russia, Turkey. These countries have an average GDP but a high internet connectivity just behind the “non-serious cybercrime countries. “Phishing schemes require more technical sophistication compared to the “Advance Fee Fraud Specialist.”
In conclusion, Countries like U.S.A where we have high GDP, are constantly targets of attacks by countries with more people and lower GDP for profit. Also, we can see that the attacks inside the U.S.A are more about piracy compared to countries like India that constantly perform Phishing attacks due to more internet users are devices.
