Throughout this course, I was able to see how a person’s attitude, personality, motivations, etc influence their reaction but also how other groups’ intentions can change and affect their reaction. My expectations for this course were not what I got due to circumstances that are not under our control. I expected the course to be more interactive rather than just going through slides and phrases that I had gone over the night before. I feel that through the course objective I was able to connect the concepts with real-life situations which made me feel that I was gaining the correct knowledge while also understanding what was being presented to me. My attitude towards social psychology has changed because it has made me want to look more into these concepts on my own while also branching out into the different fields of psychology that can possibly expand my knowledge of the topic.

I wanted to change anything but the interactiveness in the course but the professor was outgoing and well-spoken so her enthusiasm for the course helped draw me in. I’ve grown academically over the semester because I have been able to take the time on my own to look over notes for often and reach out for help if I need it. I’ve been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses which has helped me improve in most of those areas even if I was doing wonderful in those areas there’s always room for improvement. How I interact with others is one thing I can take from this course because it has shown me that sometimes our emotions take over and make us react without thinking of the consequences and it’s due to many factors. This course has shown me that that reaction can be controlled as well as why these certain behaviors occur so I can have a better handle on those impulsive reactions.

Taking the time after classes to study in the library

This photo is relevant because it shows how I have grown academically because I didn’t use to take advantage of the library but now every chance I get I spend hours there. I’m taking advantage of all the amenities that the university provides to better my study habits as well as to meet new people on campus and really explore the area.

The three things that I have learned from this course are how to reflect back on past decisions and even future decisions. However, this course has also taught me everything isn’t always as it seems for example when we have put in certain situations our behavior changes depending on our reaction to the situation. lastly, I’ve been able to see how stereotypes have been made to publicly shame a group of people but the new generation has stopped defining people by their appearance and really trying to see the person for who they really are.

I think the activity “The Self across Situations” and Blog 8 really got together because we are seeing how men and women can change their behavior when they are put into a relationship. Men and Women probably don’t get too upset about the things they would when they are in a relationship. Their behavior has changed based on their situation “The Relationship” and the reaction with men is “anger”. A concept that I have seen in Social psychology and Scientific reasoning in psychology is prejudice and discrimination which I find I have talked about in most of my psychology courses because I think a lot of the time psychology has been based on awareness of others and yourself. prejudice and discrimination are a key factors that many people have to deal with so many are learning to be more aware of this happening and how it’s affecting others.

My process of boiling down what I’ve learned throughout this course and going back over the work I’ve done and seeing which works stood out to me the most.

For many centuries couples have had that one thing that their partner can do to make them upset or get under their skin. What makes them upset may be different from other couples but they always have that one thing they can always pull from the back of the closet to get their way or make the other upset. It’s a form of control over the relationship according to men it is when their partner is too emotional so they use anger to control their emotion, but anger is just a go-to emotion for men. Men are able to use this to get their way when they want to have sex with the opposite sex they get in touch with their emotions to increase the chance of them getting laid.

For women, anger comes when their partner isn’t there for their physical and emotional needs. When a woman feels that their partner is lacking in an area a cloud of jealousy sometimes clouds her eyes. Because women are known to be more sensitive and insecure and the little things just give them reassurance that they aren’t committing infidelity emotionally or physically. When women don’t feel that reassurance they get suspicious and think something is going on behind their back and start to cause issues so that an argument can start even though their partner can be completely loyal to them and just lacks when it comes to reassurance her.

The man is sitting away from his partner being emotionally unavailable to her which can cause her to think something is going on and start to overthink and jump to conclusions.

When men feel like they’re being attacked they get defensive and angry so when women accuse them of something and get over-sensitive about it. It sends the man to get angry because they saw no signs of this coming and they think the woman is being overdramatic.

Emotional Intelligence and Self Regulation work hand to hand with each other like a reactant to the reaction. Emotional Intelligence is the knee-jerk reaction that everyone gets when they are either threaten or even becoming irritated. The best description of Emotional Intelligence for me is my flight or fight response while also reacting to something without thinking about the reaction you might get back. Self Regulation helps improve that reaction so that your consciousness has a chance to hold back that knee-jerk reaction from doing or saying something that you might regret later. There are multiple ways that my EQ can be improved by not always going through with that knee-jerk reaction.

It seems that my Emotional Intelligence scores with self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship management I’m in the positive range meaning that I have the ability to develop meaningful relationships as well as read other people’s emotions. Self Management needs improvement on my ability to control my emotions.

This ted talk did not shock me very much because it is well known in this society that women have been sexualized from a young age throughout media. I have seen many of these types of ads since adolescence that targeted my age group to make it seems like the person on the cover is what you had to look like in order to win the opposite sex over. However, the person on the cover was impossible to ever look like because they weren’t real because of all the photoshop that had gone in to make them look that way. This ted talk was able to discuss how men are being sexualized through the media as well but they wouldn’t take it as far as disrespecting the male’s body or even having the ad directed towards their body. However, it’s the opposite for a female because the ad will be based on the women’s body and dismantle it to make it fit society’s perspective of what a women’s body should look like.

During this week’s reading, I was able to learn what the factors are that make something a credible source or ad as well as what does not. There are many factors that have to be contributed like is the source supposed to be an attractive source and if it does the source has any previous knowledge about the topic the source is portraying.

Image 1 shows a credible because the topic of the ad presented is “Anti-racism” and the face of the ad is no other than the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Movement Patrisse Cullors. She makes the ad credible because she has knowledge of the topic and is well known to the audience that this ad is projected to assume. A credible source is supposed to portray trustworthiness as well as a sense of accuracy. Image 2 is a form of an attractive source but is still reliable. This is an attractive source because the face of the ad is well known and popular to this generation as well as getting the attention of many even if they didn’t know which is unlikely Beyonce. She along with her husband Jay-z were the face of the Tiffany ad. This ad is seen as an attractive ad because it makes an appearance of a well-known celebrity but it also of a nice classy and elegant vibe to it which draws people in. It is a staged ad made to lure your eyes into it. I do find this an attractive source because I was drawn into it because of who was on the cover, not the brand itself. Image 3 is not only a bad credible source but in my opinion one of the most ignorant commercials known to mad kind but that’s just my opinion. I consider this a bad source because the person who is the face of the commercial has no background knowledge and it’s giving a false depiction of how the Black Lives Matter Protest really happened. It was all around an offensive commercial that shouldn’t have even made it on air. This past week’s readings showed me the power of persuasion and how they are used in many forms that can be correct or incorrect.

What I learned from this studying process is that I was able to tell through each step of the process where I made my mistake. This process also is a great studying method for the next exam to prepare for what I missed previously. This look back at the exam was useful but I did well for the first exam it was just more of a casual review of information. This strategy can be applied even before an exam by looking over vocabulary words or even heuristics. This process can be helpful when you’re feel stomped by an area of that specific unit.

When it comes to the connection between music and relationships I’ve never thought about it until now. I have always noticed that the topic of music was a conversation starter to see if there was the same taste in music or just an interest in similar genres. My music preferences have always been a little different from everyone else but that hasn’t stopped a friendship or relationship connection from growing. I think different genres of music have been able to bring people together because of all the different genres. You’re able to really see a person based on their music choice but it doesn’t make a person it’s just an interest they have. Most of the music in my playlist is based on my older sister especially the artist J Cole. Music to me is just another extension of ourselves that helps us express ourselves when sometimes we can’t put it into words or just be able to change the vibe of the atmosphere. Music is not the only thing that is able to help us connect with each other it’s just the one thing that everyone leans more towards.

When I think of myself as a student I think I am a diligent student who puts time and effort into the work that I do, but also one that knows that failure is going to happen sometimes just depends on how you deal with it. I’m a student that is not afraid of failure because it comes with the job sometimes but also I have confidence that the effort I put into my work will speak for itself about how ambitious I am about the subjects I study. My confidence level for this semester has not been so great but I know if I spend more time focusing on subjects have I trouble with I know I can have a successful semester. There are many factors that help increase my confidence level but mainly positive thinking keeps me afloat. I feel that if you have a positive mindset about the future you can achieve anything that you put your mind to but also give you the ability to pass those obstacles. My self-efficacy results came to a total of 33 or 3.3 which I feel fits well with my task accomplishments because I’m on track with improvements in areas that I lack confidence in by putting effort into everything I do but also managing and putting my mental health first.

Dress for Success

I choose this image because it represents how I want to be seen as a student. I want to be taken seriously in my future career and that starts with your appearance in the work or as in my case in the classroom.

Many of the course objectives’ purposes are to be used not only in our ongoing college education but to use in our future careers. The course description discusses how behavior is caused by interaction with people as well as how they are changed over time. Furthermore, can help us know how to approach and interact with people, but also have some understanding of why certain behaviors are portrayed differently. Many of the course objectives help to gain knowledge of perceiving others from different perspectives instead of our own. My expectation for this course is that it will help me understand other behaviors and backgrounds. In this course, I hope to gain knowledge of understanding people’s backgrounds and how it affects their behavior. I plan to take the time out of my day to make sure I gain enough knowledge to pass this course but also gain the knowledge of social psychology
