Deviance is best defined as the defiance of regulations and customs. Having said this deviance in a work environment could most accurately be interpreted as the refusal to abide by rules and protocols set by those in charge of the workplace. Cybersecurity has enlarged the scope of such turmoil especially since access to the cyber world is not limited to just the workplace. In most cases, with most companies, revealing key information about the company you work at could result in an abundance of consequences, the worst being termination and legal issues. However, in today’s world information spreads like wildfire on the internet and with most citizens of society who own smart mobile devices, they often do not think twice about the content they are posting online or how it could potentially affect them in the long run. There is of course an abundance of scenarios that either have happened or still have the possibility of happening that could end up with an employee or associate releasing devastating information online. Obviously intentionally tagging your workplace in a derogatory post in an attempt to display negative emotions you have harbored would be a direct display of workplace deviance, but there are some scenarios in which some individuals may be unknowingly participating in violation of protocols set by a company. For example; taking pictures of the inventory in the back stock could be an example of a violation. In addition to this releasing statistical data about the company or it’s merchandise usually is not an ideal thing to do without the risk of potentially committing a case of deviance against the country. Something as simple as taking a picture of merchandise that is not publicly displayed could lead to a conflict. The item could have been unreleased and therefore, classified to the public. So for future notice, do keep in mind that releasing data that has not been authorized into the internet could not only compromise sales, but could be costly to the company and your career. There is always someone in the outside world waiting for mistakes to be made, waiting for information leakage, waiting to play their cards in an attempt to obtain some sort of gain from a large company or corporation.
