The first step to equipping a business with a cyber security program is to first recognize that you have a need for one, as most businesses do. The main reason why all businesses need some variation of a cyber security program is because all businesses have the need to store information: tax information, employees information, customer information”, etc. which means; therefore, there is a requirement for information security, which cyber security incorporates. According to the National Institution of Science and Technology. Information Security is defined as “the protection of information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction in order to provide confidentiality, integrity, and availability” .A huge vulnerability that small business have when they do not have a cyber security program set up is the risk of cyber attacks through email, which business’s primarily use for communication even till this day. Needless to say, perhaps the biggest negative with deciding to enable a cyber security program is the amount of money in which a business would have to spend just to accomplish it, but it would be wise to adopt the ideology to be safe rather then sorry. Cyber crime continues to climb to even greater heights as far as the occurrence rate, and the tactics being used to preform them, in fact it has been reported by the National small business association (NSBA) that nearly half of small businesses in the United States have reported at least one occasion of them being a victim to a cyber incident and more than 60% of those businesses have all gone out of business since then. While on the topic, is important for technology users, or computer users to be more specific, understand simple signs to tell if their computer may not be safe. Some signs that a computer may be compromised are frequent blocked pop up browsers, Sudden utter crashes by the computer, unknown programs or applications being ran, etc.
