More Than a Game: My NSU Basketball Connection
NSU basketball isn’t just a passion—it’s family. With my younger brother playing as a sophomore, every game feels personal. Instead of just cheering from the stands, I use my platform to amplify his journey and promote NSU basketball. With 14,000 Instagram followers, I share game highlights, stats, and behind-the-scenes moments to boost the team’s visibility and celebrate HBCU sports culture. I share highlights, game schedules, and stats on Instagram, while Twitter is for live-tweeting, quick reactions, and fan engagement. People often ask me for game links and ticket info, and I love keeping the NSU basketball community connected. I also travel for games, sharing behind-the-scenes moments to give followers a firsthand look at the experience. Consistency is key—I keep my followers engaged with regular updates, game-day posts, and key plays. Community engagement is huge—people always message me up asking for game links, ticket info, or just to chat about the team, making the whole experience feel more interactive. Promotion and exposure matter too—tagging NSU, basketball pages, and media outlets helps expand visibility for my brother and the team, ensuring they get the recognition they deserve. Through my posts, I’ve built a digital hub where the Spartan spirit thrives, bringing fans together and keeping the NSU basketball hype alive. I provided 3 recent post I made below.
This post was shared to my Instagram story to give an update on the match against Washington Adventist. I made sure to tag NSU basketball as well as my brother’s page; I also added this post to my basketball highlight on my page. Below is the caption for the post
“NSU takes the game 63 points! Sophomore ore Jordan Leaks got his time to shine. @nsubasketball @jayl3._”
This was a post that NSU added to their Twitter page. I make sure that I have post notifications on so that I can update my followers throughout the game. I like to quote and repost their tweets to add to my personal page.
This post was a post to get some engagement with the game. In the first 5 minutes, Leaks scored and was being aggressive on the court. I also added the link to the game so people have access to tap in and watch live.
