On March 6, 2025, Norfolk State rolled into Burr Gymnasium and handled business, taking down Howard 81-69 in a high-stakes MEAC battle. With this win, the Spartans not only clinched the regular-season sweep over the Bison but also secured a share of the MEAC regular-season championship, tying them with South Carolina State at the top of the standings.

The first half was a tight contest, with Howard’s Marcus Dockery keeping the home crowd engaged by putting on a shooting clinic. Dockery dropped 23 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while Blake Harper added 17 points and Anwar Gill chipped in 10. The Bison were aggressive, but turnovers hurt them big time—they committed 18 giveaways, allowing Norfolk State to capitalize with 24 points off turnovers.
While Howard struggled with ball security, Norfolk State played smart, controlled basketball. Brian Moore Jr. was unstoppable, leading the way with 21 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals, proving why he’s one of the top guards in the conference. Jalen Myers was a force inside, recording a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Chris Fields Jr. came off the bench with 12 points and 7 rebounds, giving the Spartans the depth advantage.

After a competitive first half, Norfolk State turned up the heat in the second, shooting 53.3% from the field and dominating the paint with a 46-24 scoring advantage inside. Their bench outscored Howard’s reserves 22-19, reinforcing that this team has the firepower to go deep in the MEAC Tournament.
With this win, Norfolk State finished the regular season at 21-10 overall and 11-3 in the MEAC, officially tying South Carolina State for the regular-season championship. Howard, now sitting at 12-19 (7-7 MEAC), will have to regroup before postseason play. The MEAC Tournament is up next, and with Norfolk State surging at the perfect time, the Spartans are setting their sights on turning this co-championship into an outright tournament title. If they keep playing at this level, a trip to the NCAA Tournament could be in their future.
