Old Dominion Lacrosse Wins 12-11 in a Stunning Overtime Matchup against Furman
Old Dominion Monarchs beat the Furman Paladins 12-11 this last Friday at the LR Hill Sports Complex.

Norfolk, VA – ODU Lacrosse earned their third straight win at home this year, after an 11-12 overtime battle against Furman Friday Night at LR Sports Hill Complex. Attack Jules Mills scored a career high of 5 goals, with an overtime score to send Furman back home.
“We played a full-team game right there,” said Goalkeeper Brynn Bowen. “Shoutout to Jules Mills for hitting us with the buzzer beater, but it took all of us to win that game, and I’m so proud of this team for fighting a hard-fought battle.”
Old Dominion attacker Natalie Calandra-Ryan took a shot at the Furman goalpost at the beginning of overtime, which bounced into the hands of Furman midfielder Anna Kelly, who later turned it over back to the Monarchs. Mills was the next one to capitalize on another opportunity, scoring her fifth goal of the night in a sudden-death match against Furman.
Old Dominion attacker Kylie O’Donnell scored her second goal of the season with a minute left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 10-10, sending the game into overtime.
“Resiliency was at a all time high tonight,” said Head Coach Theresa Walton. “Everyone had to be on, and big moments happened throughout the whole game.
Furman (2-4) started the game with an early 3-0 lead, seeing scores from Emily Muir, Shae Insiga, and Lily Toole.
After the first minute of the start of the second quarter, Maria Snyder assisted Jules Mills, who was able to gain the first score for the Monarchs. Furman was able to score two free-position shots after a series of back-to-back fouls, making the lead 5-1. Mills was able to respond with another goal at the 12-minute mark, and another one off a free-position shot, narrowing the score to 5-3. Natalie Calendra-Ryan scored her first goal of the night after an assist from Maria Snyder, giving the Monarchs another score on the board. Furman’s midfielder, Shae Insiga, was able to sneak in two scores before the end of the first half.
After the half, Insiga scored her third goal of the night, creating an 8-5 lead on the Monarchs. ODU Sofia Snyder was able to score off a pass from midfielder Kate Pfeiler with 12 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Sylvia Mayo was able to score her first goal of the season off of a free-position shot with 6:39 left in the third, putting the Monarchs within one with a score of 8-7. Furmans’ attacker, Reynolds Hester, added another score to their lead off of a free position shot before the end of the third quarter.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Old Dominion’s Annalynn Pompetti and Calandro-Ryan both scored, tying the game at 9-9. Toole scored a goal for Furman to put themselves back in the lead at 10-9. Kylie O’Donnell was able to respond for the Monarchs, tying the game at 10-10. Mills was able to put another one on the board, which put the Monarchs in the lead, which was short-lived after the Furman’s was able to put another score up with just 1 second left remaining, sending the game to overtime.
The Monarchs go down to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to play their next opponent, Winthrop University, on Sunday, March 8.
