The ability to identify whether a computer is safe or not depends on each case. It may be as easy as simply adware popping up every 10 seconds to as minute as a malicious process silently running in the background. For an average joe who isn’t the most knowledgeable about cybersecurity, let alone computers in general, it may be extremely difficult to identify a problem. Most people don’t even know about task manager, which is basically a window showing every application and task that your computer is currently running. This can be a great way to see if your computer is safe or not, from seeing if your computer is using a large amount of energy, such as your CPU running idle windows at 90%, to a task running in the background that can be easy to miss. A simple way of flushing out the most common malware that can reside in a computer would be to restart your computer and run a scan of your computer, such as windows defender. It simply takes noticing the small and large details that are different than usual, such as a slower computer. As always, the best form of preventing malware is to practice good web practices, such as not clicking on a suspicious link or email, or not downloading more RAM.

Computers have completely altered the course of the world and humanity as a whole. One of those ways is a seemingly infinite space of security applications. Computers have made the world safer in a multitude of ways such as public security, communication, and access. After the utilization of computers in general security, we now have security through better policing methods and equipment, security cameras, and a more connected and secure world where once someone would easily be able to get away with damaging the community, to now where they can be apprehended quickly and citizens can feel safe. Faster, efficient, and secure communication is perhaps one of the most important aspects of the computer boom. Countries that are continents apart can now communicate with each other back in forth within seconds. This has allowed for a more connected, richer, and a safer world. Lastly, computers have allowed for greater access to, quite literally, everything. From knowledge, like online schooling, to food and more efficient farming.

However, with such an increase in security and efficiency, there are also less-safe consequences of computers such as lack of privacy, greater access to a target, and weapons of mass destruction. With the boom of computers and the internet, a person’s data is collected and sold everywhere. Governments are spying on their own citizens. There seems to be a lack of privacy, and worse of all, people seem not to mind anymore. Alongside that, the evil side of humanity is better brought out with the rise of computers. People can now target others, harassing them day in and out, even causing others to commit suicide. Lastly, which should be scariest of all, a mass collection of advanced warfare that could quite literally end the world. These problems may not be directly contributed to computers themselves, but to the troubled mind of man; however, computers are still the medium in which the world may end by.
