Networks are a massive part of cybersecurity. Without a secure network whole enterprises can be compromised and their information and assets accessed by malicious attackers. So how and who protects and strengthens these networks? Network Engineers are specialists who design and implement network configurations, troubleshoot performance issues, monitor and configure security systems, and test network security. They can design and implement a network depending on the need of the client. Meaning, that the security of a networks from simply the concept and planning of one. Devices such as using a router vs a switch can drastically change the security of a network. Network engineers must also filter and block certain things that come in and out of a network, which is a firewall. Network engineers must optimize firewalls and permissions within a network so certain packets will automatically be blocked. They must also work with project managers and other employees to further maintain the security of a system with the ever increasing and changing landscape that of an enterprise.

Cybercrime and Criminology essentially go hand in hand as the whole trillion dollar industry of cybersecurity is based off of protecting data from an imminent threat. Cybercrime has evolved into such a large section of crime that a new discipline of digital forensics has even been created. Many statutes and fields of the justice system have needed mass development to include cybercrime as the rise in technological crime was developed and grew extremely quickly. The need for cyber professionals to combat and protect against cybercrime has grown so much that colleges are quickly adding an entire major dedicated to cybersecurity, such as Old Dominion University. This overlap of cybercrime and criminology is very similar to other disciplines to where cybercrime is slowly intertwining itself into each discipline. As most of everything is becoming more and more digitized, such as confidential research data. Cybercrime is a problem that will not go away and will persist through the test of time for as long as society is online.
