                                                  The CIA Triad Write-Up

The CIA triad which stands for “Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability”, is a model that basically ensures the protection of private information. Confidentiality goes about keeping information private and making sure the information is not accessible to any other unauthorized people. Integrity goes over the accuracy of the information and ensuring all the information is correct and applies to the user. And availability ensures that the information is accessible to the authorized users at any moment. The overall purpose of the CIA triad is to protect and prioritize users and their information.

My personal definition of authentication vs authorization is, authentication goes over who you are while authorization goes over what you’re allowed to do. What is data security article states “

  1. Authentication is the process of ensuring users are who they say they are.
  2. Authorization is the process of ensuring authenticated users have access to the necessary data and resources.”

Although these two definitions are different, I believe that they go hand in hand with each other because you would need to authenticate who someone is before you authorize them.
