I am interested in cybersecurity technology as cybersecurity is an always changing topic. Proper cybersecurity is crucial for every business that does anything online, whether it be promotions via Facebook or an online payment system. Cybersecurity is interesting to me as there is never a dull moment and I always have to be on top of the latest technologies, including their updates and vulnerabilities. As a result, I’ve decided to pursue multiple cybersecurity certifications, including CompTIA’s Security+ and Cybersecurity Analyst+.

Old Dominion University offers a wide variety of majors. Four majors which ODU offers that are related to cybersecurity are Information Systems & Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Criminal Justice.

The Information Systems & Technology major relates to cybersecurity as it prepares students by showing them how information technology plays a role in the business environment. In order to successfully complete this program, they must have gained a technical background in information technology and network security. Network security is crucial for businesses

The Computer Science and Computer Engineering majors are related to cybersecurity as they are both involved in creating computer systems. In order for a computer system to be usable and feasible with modern technology, they must have some form of cybersecurity implementation. Without any data safeguard on these computer systems, they would not be considered for use.

The final major I chose which relates to cybersecurity is the Criminal Justice major. This major is an interesting one that relates to cybersecurity as more and more crimes committed involve technology. Before the evolution of the internet and IoT devices, anyone studying Criminal Justice would not need to know anything about laws or policies pertaining to cybersecurity. However, with most business being conducted online and most finances being accessible online, criminals have since evolved to steal information, and money, and commit crimes using the internet.

While many other majors may relate to cybersecurity, I chose these four as they relate heavily and are more relevant and prominent for the world of cybersecurity.
