Skills

This portfolio is organized around three skills I use as a network engineer and developed further through my cybersecurity coursework: Linux, Python, and Written Communications. Each skill is supported by three artifacts from CYSE labs, CS 112, IDS 493, and my professional work. No artifact is used for more than one skill.

Linux Security Testing

Using the tools of an attacker to map a network, find its weaknesses, and understand how data can be hidden from defenders.
– CYSE 450 – Network Reconnaissance Lab: Verified host IP configuration, tested connectivity with ping, scanned a target with NMAP, and transferred a file over FTP. Shows the basic recon and connectivity work that starts every security assessment.
– CYSE 450 – Vulnerability Scanning and Attack Simulation Lab: Scanned a system for known vulnerabilities and simulated an attack against the discovered vulnerabilities. Shows the move from discovering weaknesses to demonstrating their impact.
– CYSE 270 – Linux Command Line: Showcases traversing a Linux system to view different files in different directories, their permissions, and deleting files.

Python

Writing scripts that automate technical work, from classroom fundamentals to a tool I use on the job.
– CS 112 – Script – A script that calculates elements inside of a 3D array. Shows Python solving mathematical problems.
– CS 112 – Final Project – A game of checkers that is playable from the terminal. Shows Python problem solving.
– Ericsson Cradlepoint SDK – A SDK I wrote at work that uses the Cradlepoint’s router API to pull router status and automate routine checks. Credentials and customer data have been removed. Shows Python solving a real network engineering problem.

Written Communication

Explaining technical analysis clearly to readers who were not there when the work was done.
CYSE 450 – Threat and Risk Analysis Report: Identified an organization’s critical assets, classified threats against them using the STRIDE model, and scored risk quantitatively with DREAD. Shows structured analytical writing where the reasoning, not a photo, is the deliverable.
IDS 493 – Job Advertisement Content Analysis: A research paper applying content analysis to two Senior Network Engineer job ads. Shows analytical writing in APA format.
Network Documentation (Sanitized): Documentation I wrote at work describing how Layer 2 over Layer 3 is effective. Shows professional documentation written for other engineers.
