For the talk abroad, it was different. Before, the instructor gave my partner and I the same worksheet to go off of so that we were both prepared. This time, the instructor based our performances off of the time it took to take in the question and give a response that was coherent and speedy. Altogether, i enjoyed the exercise more because it gave more freedoms pertaining to what we could talk about, rather than be restricted to guidelines.
For other Talk Abroads, we had a paper that outlined what we could say and were restricted to a certain chapter or chapters that were covered for the semester. I, personally, liked this Talk Abroad more because it gave creative freedoms to take the conversation where we wanted it to go. The partner would base their questions off of the information we had discussed and it felt like an actual conversation rather than a scripted performance at times.
There were moments where I had forgotten what word to say or what I was talking about. The partner had to help me through a couple words and I was thrown off by his accent when the conversation began. It was the first time I had a speaker from Quebec. It was enjoyable to say the least. He had some slang words I hadn’t heard before that caught my ear and made things more confusing at times, but for the most part, he was a wonderful partner to have!
