For this journal entry, the assignment was to select certain areas that I would want to focus my career on. I also have to select which one appeals to me and the one that does not.
The areas that appeal to me the most are collect and operate, analyze, and investigate. These areas do all of the footwork. They consist of gathering information. Collect and operate allows me to create a real time scenario to see if the systems are functioning properly. It allows proper planning to protect vulnerable information that most hackers want. This also helps create real time scenarios to help a company fix any issues with the network. When analyzing the network, one must communicate with other companies to see what a hacker was trying to target. They must do additional research to see what parts of the country are being targeted and what is being exploited. All security threats are serious, but they come with different levels of seriousness. A company can completely shut down due to a vulnerability hacker hacking into the network. Investigating is collecting all of the information and figuring out new ideas to protect networks. They have to find a balance among different scenarios such as interviews, investigations, and surveillance.
The least appealing to me is to protect and defend. This framework sounds like it has plenty of meetings. They have to be in the spotlight and have an immediate answer to all the questions that will be asked of them. This one has the most pressure. They have to assess the level of risk once an incident report is reported. Someone has to constantly monitor unauthorized activity. To me, it seems as if this framework has a break.
